Antique St Rita painted plaster statue. It is not a Saint I find often.
She is often refered to as 'the Patroness of lost causes' or 'the Saint of the impossible'.
She is depicted in her Augustinian nun habit and with a small thorn on her forehead.
She is holding lillies and a book (probably the Bible). It is very unusual as she is normally seen with a rose or a cross.
'Ste Rita' is engraved on the base.
There are damages commensurate with age.
The paint is gone in small places: nose, chin or hands.
The robe and veil were repainted. There are small irregularities as some parts where the paint had flaked were painted over.
The paint wasn't done perfectly (both the original and the repainting).
The base is very worn. The paint is gone in large places and there are chips.
Small stains / discolouration and imperfections.
It is a beautiful statue. The eyes of St Rita and her pose are very moving.
Height: approx. 32 cm / 12.59 inches.
The pictures are part of the description.
