Rare Our Lady of Pontmain red crucifix in painted ceramic. Please note, the Pontmain figurine in some photographs is sold separately.
At the end of the Marian apparition in Pontmain, a deep red cross appeared before the Virgin. Jesus on the cross was in the same colour. There is a white piece at the top of the cross with the words 'Jesus-Christ' written in red. The Virgin showed this very unusal cross with both hands to the children.
This is a replica of her cross.
Signed CE (I think) at the back. I couldn't find any information on this signature.
The Corpus Christi is a slightly darker and bluer shade of red.
A small part at the bottom of the cross at the back is unpainted and unglazed.
There is a ceramic loop (partly unglazed) at the back and some string to hang the cross on the wall.
There are imperfections in the colour (tiny parts are still white and unglazed) and it is not even.
Small scratches, tiny chips and marks. The edge of the bar next to and under the letter 'J' is worn and the glazing gone.
Sticker glued at the back.
This is a beautiful piece. I live not far from Pontmain but very rarely find a red cross!
