Beautiful small oil painting on canvas depicting Jesus with the crown of thorns on the cross.
In a very thick wood frame.
No signature or date but likely first half of the 20th century.
The black paint on the canvas has crackled more than the other colors. 
There are small stains, scratches and probably some discolouration.
The frame has an inner border with an Art Nouveau style decoration and an outer border which is polished.
The inner border has cracks and some small pieces are missing. 
The outer frame has scratches some of them fairly deep and chips at the edges and corners. 
The varnish is very worn in large places, especially at the bottom. 
The frame appears almost black but has two shades as seen in the last photograph taken in the sunlight.
The frame is chipped at the bottom but mostly towards the back.
There is a small tag to the back of the frame with a handwritten note "Pour M. Therese Dufouil" indicating it was a gift.
The painting can be wall-hung immediately.

Size opening: approx. 10 x 14 cm / 4 x 5.5 inches
